06/07 Premier League Preview -
Part II: Goalscorers

Continuing from part one of our preview of 2006-2007 Premier League betting, the top goalscorer market always offers some value, particularly for those that can spot a new talent from the start.

06/07 TOP GOALSCORER BETTING

SHEVCHENKO

BEST TOP GOALSCORER ODDS : 4/1 at Bet365

Shevchenko - newly arrived at Chelsea - has a fabulous scoring record wherever he has been. He's the top Champions League goalscorer of all time, scored 173 goals in 296 games for AC Milan and is likely to terrorise Premiership defences.
WEEKLY BETTING TIPS
Premiership betting online at William Hill
A bet on Shevchenko to be top goalscorer in the Premiership this season is money well spent, I feel. Chelsea have the players to create the chances and Shevchenko is sure to put them away.

A SURPRISE FROM THE LOWER DIVISIONS

Over the last few seasons, there has always been a surprise among the top goalscorers in the FA Premier League. Kevin Phillips, Marcus Stewart, Andy Johnson, Darren Bent have all come direct from the division below and have surprised both pundits and bookies with their scoring prowess.

The trick is to find this season's Darren Bent and place a healthy each way bet on him before a ball is kicked.

MARLON KING (WATFORD)

I'm really sticking my neck out with this one, but I think Watford's Marlon King might just be the man to get the 15 or so goals needed to be one of the top four goalscorers in the Premier League this season.

He scored 22 in the league for Watford last season and is a robust enough player not to get knocked around too much by Premiership defenders. Despite a spell in jail and a poor record for Nottingham Forest, he was fantastic at Gillingham and I think he might just do the job this season.

As I said, it's a real risky bet, but with £20 each way paying £3750 at SportingOdds.com, why not?

BEST ODDS ON MARLON KING (WATFORD) E/W : 150/1 at Sporting Odds

OTHER OUTSIDERS

Dimitar Berbatov (Spurs)

Berbatov has been banging 'em in for Tottenham in pre-season against opposition like Dortmund and his record in Germany over the last three seasons has been a goal every two games. If Jol plays him in the same role Mido played last season, Berbatov will get a lot of games and should do well. A good outside bet.

BEST ODDS ON BERBATOV TO BE TOP SCORER:

Darren Bent and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Charlton)

If Bent can repeat his form of last season and Hasselbaink can keep doing what he always does (and he's been doing it in pre-season), this combination are enough to scare any Premiership defence. This makes them both good each way top goalscorer bets in my eyes.

BEST ODDS ON DARREN BENT TO BE TOP SCORER: 33/1 at William Hill

BEST ODDS ON HASSELBAINK TO BE TOP SCORER: 66/1 at Sporting Odds.com
