England 2:0 USA, who would argue that this was one of the most woeful games this century,an England team looking no better than a mid table premiership side, against a thank God weak impotent USA,had England been playing Germany or even Italy, they would have been thumped.
Capello shows his mentality, David Bentley, another safe uninspiring good player, picked ahead of once again walcott, phillips, lennon, young, nugent, ect ect, once again Gerrard is picked automatically, despite doing nothing for England in over six years. History has shown over and over that it is only when England plays attacking skilful Football, that other countrys quake, they could only stop England in 1998 by sending off a player in 2oo4, by stamping on Rooneys foot,in 2006 by again sending off a player, think of England, sweeping forward as they did when Crouch buried it into the net, one of the best volleys ever, against croatia, they were shellshocked, but alas Beckham was ordered to play back in defence by mclaren, and well his shocking clearance led to the third croatian goal, Italy, Germany,Spain,Argentina,Brazil dont fear a capello led England, they fear an England that attack and attack again, this is why England despite only winning one world cup, has been one of the most feared powers for decades, now they are destined to be pale Italians, desperately fighting against their instincts and culture, without the passion of defence minded latins, whose discipline in such matters borders on the tedious. There will be no room for Arsenal reserve Walcott, who will probably give up and play cricket, where being talented and English doesnt count against you. No room for the brilliant Ashley Young,no room for the genius of Crouch(oh if he were just a yard or two quicker)no room for shaun wright phillips (please play for Newcastle). Only room for the predictable, the very trait other countries love about certain English sides.Unpredictability speed, attacking flair England should be a side full of these assets, pair Kevin Keegan with tactical support from David Moyes and England would be unbeatable. |

As an American I will speak lightly on this issue. I can't help but attribute England's lack of success to three major things.
1- using the same players forever! get some new blood in there. 2- bigger emphasis on foreigners than natives in the EPL. 6+5 rule should fix that though. 3- pride. England has tons of pride (and rightfully so) but sometimes that makes you blind to your weaknesses. |
