Can anybody give me some average salaries for guys who play in League 1/2, and the Conference?  Are those guys even full-time pros?  There are so many leagues in England I have a hard time keeping it all straight.

Every footballer in the Football League (that's Championship, Leagues 1 and 2) are professional footballers, so they are all full time pros.

There are some full time players in the Conference as well.

As for salary, I'm not sure certain. I can't find the figures I saw a couple of years back, but if memory serves, an average League Two players was making a health £40k or so per year (that's around $70k).

That's actually not that bad.  I don't know what the cost of living in England is compared to the US (a little more I think) but 40k isn't bad at all when you consider that there are MLS players that make less than $13,000/YEAR.

I think 40k is good enough to have comfortable life.  That's why many aspire to be league player.

40k pounds or dollars?  If you're making it in pounds then that's like 80k dollars to 90k dollars depending on the exchange rate, that's a good living in the US.  But 40k dollars in the US is a lowerish income, but liveable.

Compared to football in the states where the average salaries are over 2.2 million a year this is a mere pittance.

Yeah, well that's because MLS teams don't have the money that NFL teams have.  And if the players were better, they could make more elsewhere.  Public demand to see better players will ultimately drive up salary caps and wages.
