Ok, I'm looking for some outside opinions here. We Americans have our own problems with our team, but what about all you other people. As best you can see, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the US team?
PS - I'll give a prize to whoever comes up with the best rip on the US. But try to add something constructive first. |

I do try to keep up with international football, but to be honest, the USA haven't really figured very much on my radar since the 2002 World Cup Finals. That was a good squad of players - Donovan, Reyna, McBride, Keller and Friedel - there was some proper talent there.
Since then, I'm just not seeing many good American players coming through. The last couple of imports to England have been rubbish (I think Nick Webb will chip in here somewhere as they all seem to end up at Fulham). The one thing that American sports teams always have in their favour (or favor, if you must) is that whole TeamUSA, blood brothers, America vs the World stuff that binds them as teams. Unfortunately, right now I can only guess at who plays for the USA and most of those wouldn't get in the Bolton Wanderers squad. |

| USA and soccer don't kinda match. They have to put in some real effort to make it somewhere in world football. As of now they are just a team that's got a long way to go. | ||

| jimhaines pretty much put everything out there. They had a pretty good crop of players in the 2002 world cup..But unless enough players make it through the leagues and play in European leagues they can't really raise the level of their game to what it is at the moment.. | ||

| I'm looking at a kid like Freddy Adu who's now in Monaco. If the US is putting all their faith in him, I think we're in trouble. Hopefully Altidore will make a name for himself in Spain and our England guys will kick it up a notch. | ||

Adu was highly rated as a very young player, but he hasn't stepped up to the plate.
Altidore I don't know (I'll take a look on YouTube in a minute) but the guys in England aren't getting a look in. Eddie Johnson proved he wasn't up to the challenge last season, Dempsey isn't get a start, although he was fairly good. As for Bocanegra and that other American defender at Fulham...ugh! Actually, I think they got sold/released from their contracts. Tim Howard is a good goalkeeper, though. That's about it for the USA, as far as I'm concerned. |

| Yeah, it seems like there's a lot at the u-23 level that's still developing but has tons of potential, but the full national team is looking a little weak, not to mention that most WCQ games are starting to look like u-23 matches + a couple old guys. | ||
